Councilmember Robyn Denson will step down from the City Council on December 31 to assume her newly elected office as a Pierce County Councilmember. The City Council will be seeking a candidate to appoint as a replacement for the remainder of her term.
Councilmember Denson will leave behind a vacancy in Position 5 on the Gig Harbor City Council which will be filled by the appointment of a candidate selected by the remainder of the Gig Harbor City Council.
The City will provide an application form and begin accepting applications in mid-December for anyone interested in serving in the vacant position. Applicants must be a city resident for at least one year and must be a registered voter in the City of Gig Harbor. Announcement of the application will be made on the City's website, the City's Facebook page and other media outlets.
The appointee will serve the remainder of Councilmember Denson's term, which is up for election in 2023. The appointee will need to file for election if he or she would like to serve after the expiration of the term. The winner of the 2023 election for Position 5 will take office immediately upon certification of the election, rather than waiting for appointment on January 1, 2024.
