Governor Inslee announces “Healthy Washington–Roadmap to Recovery”

Gov. Jay Inslee announced “Healthy Washington — Roadmap to Recovery,” a COVID-19 phased recovery plan. Beginning on January 11, the state will follow a regional recovery approach with every region beginning in Phase 1.

Civic Center Closed to the Public

The Civic Center will be closed until further notice due to the on-going restrictions in effect caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Once a decision to re-open the Civic Center has been made, it will be announced in advance to the community.

City staff continue to be available via phone and email. The main phone number to City Hall is (253) 851-8136.

Extension of COVID-19 Related Special Use Regulation Suspension

The suspension of Special Use Permit regulations and encroachment permit fees for qualifying businesses has been extended through December 31, 2021.

Restoring Parks Name Public Hearing

The City is considering restoring the name of the lands in and around Austin Estuary and Donkey Creek Parks to honor the Puyallup Tribe’s history in Gig Harbor.

Statewide Plastic Bag Ban Delayed Until January 30, 2021

Responding to growing plastic bag pollution, the Washington State Legislature in 2020 passed a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags that was scheduled to take effect on January 1. This new law supersedes the City's "Bring Your Own Bag" Ordinance.
