ANCICH PARK AND NETSHED REHABILITATION PROJECT
PROJECT UPDATE 10/8/18
Work in Progress:
The City’s contractor, Quigg Brothers Construction, has been busy with the Ancich Park and Netshed Rehabilitation Project. The netshed has been placed back on the reconstructed west pier. Siding of the Ancich netshed is mostly complete. Any salvageable original siding and framing timbers were re-used when possible.
Construction the east and west piers continues to go well. Timber decking installation is complete. The east pier catwalk is installed.
Construction of the boat storage building is underway. Most of the structural work is complete and the majority of the work is now taking place inside the building and on the roof. Interior Sheetrocking of the boat storage is complete and crews are working on the interior finishes.
Impacts to the Public:
Pedestrian Detour Route
Quigg has closed the parking stalls and sidewalk directly adjacent to the site for the duration of the project. Pedestrian foot traffic is no longer permitted to use the sidewalk directly in front of the site. However, a pedestrian detour is established. The pedestrian route shifts foot traffic from the sidewalk on the north side of Harborview Drive to the sidewalk on the south side of Harborview drive, from Harborview/Stinson to Harborview/Novak. There are established pedestrian crossings in both locations. A temporary rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) is installed at the Harborview/Stinson crosswalk.
Current Harborview Drive Impacts
Harborview Drive will be operating as a two-lane, two-direction street for the foreseeable future. However, please use caution as trucks are currently entering/leaving the site hauling excavation material. There will be access to all businesses and residents for the duration of the project.
Ancich sidewalk improvement and associated frontage improvement construction is expected to be completed over the next month. The offsite sidewalk improvements are constructed along Harborview Drive. They begin at Novak Street and continue to Eddon Boat Park. The contractor is expected to begin removal and replacement of private driveway approaches over the next month. The project timeline will be updated on the project website as information becomes available. Thank you for your patience.
Harborview Drive Impacts (October 15th- November 15th)
Starting on October 15th the City’s contractor, Quigg Brothers Inc., will be implementing a one-way traffic detour route on Harborview Drive between Rosedale Street and Stinson Avenue. The purpose of this detour is to facilitate the full roadway reconstruction of Harborview Drive in front of the Ancich Park construction site, and installation of a concrete crosswalk and flashing beacon system near Eddon Boat Park.
During the closure, eastbound traffic on Harborview drive, from Stinson Avenue to Rosedale Street, will not be permitted. However, the detour will allow for westbound traffic. The detour is scheduled to be in effect until November 15th but may be extended or altered depending on weather conditions.
The City of Gig Harbor appreciates your patience throughout the closure and apologizes for any associated delay.
Night work is not anticipated for the foreseeable future.
Remaining Work and Timelines:
October/November: Private driveway approach removal and replacement, boat storage building interior finishes, planter box walls on boat storage building roof, construction of west side retaining walls, installation of netshed doors and windows, completion of sidewalk frontage improvements, and full width pavement replacement adjacent to the site.
