This area of the park used to have an old house on it and the petroleum may be from a possible oil tank associated with the house.
Due to the emergency nature and timing of this event, the City Engineer directed Robinson Noble, an environmental cleanup firm, to assess the limits of contamination and determine the level of contamination. All soil sample results came back below the State and Federal Cleanup levels and the minimal groundwater area of contamination was properly removed and disposed of at an approved disposal site. Robinson Noble is in the process of completing its technical report and will be providing the necessary steps forward to complete this cleanup activity. In the meantime, the contractor will not be excavating any more material until the City receives formal notice from Robinson Noble that work can resume. It is expected that the excavation work will resume on March 12.
An emergency professional services contract to pay Robinson Noble's work is now on the March 12 Council meeting agenda listed under New Business.
